Woosh Expands Into New Industries: Woosh x Washin Coin Laundry Partnership

Introduction

Washin Coin Laundry is a 24-hour laundromat chain with five locations in Alabama, USA. Washin Coin Laundry started integrating Woosh smart air filters in January, 2024 to address the challenges of high-particulate environments, where lint and debris quickly clog filters. Woosh’s smart filters adjust to real-time particulate loads, maximizing filter life, reducing energy consumption, and minimizing HVAC strain.

Testimonial From the Owner and Operator - Washin Coin Laundry

For the past 12 months we have worked closely with the team at Woosh to set up monitor and determine the best timing to change the filters. This has resulted in longer times between changes, less guess work and more scheduled manpower.
In one case they alerted me to a possible issue with the cooling unit. We called the technician and had a leak in the lines repaired and the freon topped up before any impact was felt in the store. Woosh has provided the automation I was looking for to make my HVAC system run efficiently and save us time and money.”

Benefits Washin Coin Laundry has Experienced with Woosh

Woosh maximizes filter lifespan by using real-time data to optimize replacements, which has resulted in Washin Coin Laundry cutting both labor hours and material expenses while gaining confidence in system maintenance.
Laundromats face a unique challenge: large amounts of airborne lint make filters appear dirty within days, but visual inspections alone don’t reveal airflow resistance. Woosh’s smart sensors provide accurate measurements, ensuring filters are changed only when necessary. Washin Coin Laundry previously used generic MERV 8 filters, which were replaced approximately every 10 days. Woosh MERV 8 filters extend filter life by adjusting to real-time particulate levels, increasing the average replacement cycle to 28.5 days.

With a handyman labor rate of $20 per hour and a filter change time of 15 minutes per filter ($5 per change), HVAC maintenance costs saw significant savings. Before Woosh, filters were replaced every 10 days, with an annual labor cost of $1,095 and material costs of $1,314, totaling $2,409 per year. After implementing Woosh, the replacement cycle extended to every 28.5 days, reducing labor costs to $384 and material costs to $921 per year. The switch led to a $1,104 annual reduction in HVAC maintenance costs, a 46% savings.
This data-driven approach not only saves on labor and materials but also enhances asset protection, preventing costly HVAC failures and adding another ~$1,200 in annual savings. For example, one of Washin Coin Laundry's locations showed sudden pressure drops (marked in red), indicating coil freezing due to low refrigerant or minor leaks. Without early detection, the issue could have persisted unnoticed until cooling became insufficient. This location previously operated with one 5-ton unit, making the issue harder to detect without remote monitoring.

Before installing Woosh and smart thermostats, temperature monitoring relied solely on staff feedback. Early detection allowed for timely repairs, avoiding a potential $12,000 system replacement.
Additionally, by reducing fan workload, Washin Coin Laundry sees ~$120 in yearly energy savings. By leveraging Grainger’s Air Handler Energy Savings Calculator we can estimate the reduction in energy consumption of HVAC systems by lowering the initial pressure drop associated with Woosh Smart Air Filters. The chart below shows the performance comparison between Woosh and a more generic filter.

The HVAC units have a 1024 CFM air flow rate and operate continuously, with all other parameters set based on the defaults provided by Grainger. The generic MERV 8 filters have an initial pressure drop of 0.25” W.C. at 300 FPM, while Woosh MERV 8 filters have a significantly lower initial pressure drop of 0.10” W.C. at 300 FPM. The total energy savings across all systems, which can be calculated in detail upon request, show that each rooftop unit saves $24.04 per filter, resulting in a total annual savings of $120.20 per unit.

Altogether, these efficiencies add up to $2,287 in total annual savings across all locations, demonstrating how Woosh’s technology results in cleaner air, smarter maintenance, and improved business operations.
Thank you, Washin Coin Laundry for your continued support!
