At Woosh Air, one of the most common questions we get is, “How long do your filters last?” The answer isn’t as simple as you might think. Sometimes, you might need to change your filter within weeks, while in other cases, it could last up to 12 months. The lifespan of a filter varies significantly based on many factors, such as air quality, HVAC usage, and environmental conditions — and these change with the seasons.
Changing your filter on a fixed schedule is almost always inaccurate. Whether you’re changing your filter every three months, six months, or some other arbitrary interval, it’s either too early or too late. Changing it too early results in unnecessary spend and wastes resources, however if you wait too long, your air quality can suffer, and your HVAC system is put under extra strain, which can lead to equipment wearing out faster and costly repairs.
The Data-Driven Approach to Filter Life
Traditional filters usually come with a recommended replacement schedule, such as every three months. However, this one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t account for the specific conditions in your home or business.
Home Depot Buying Guide recommends every 3 to 6 months for pleated air filters
