Todd Hutchings discovered Woosh in its early stages on Kickstarter and has been a dedicated supporter ever since. Recently, we asked him to share his feedback and journey with us here’s what we learned.
Why Todd Chose Woosh
With a career in tech, Todd has always valued data and found Woosh’s solution especially useful for monitoring system performance and ensuring everything is running smoothly.
“I like the idea of being able to monitor in real time filter health and system condition. I’ve had people come out on a regular basis, and every time they come out, it's ‘change your filter, change your filter, change your filter.’ But just because it looks dirty doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not still effective.”
User-Friendly Tech
While technology comes naturally to Todd, he still appreciates how easy Woosh is to use. He admitted he’s sometimes skeptical of Kickstarter products—but was pleasantly surprised by Woosh’s seamless experience.
“I liked all the instructions and everything just worked. Everything worked exactly as it was supposed to. For Kickstarter, that’s well, I’m not going to say it’s rare but sometimes there’s a bit of a struggle at the beginning, you know? Once they put things out, they’re still figuring stuff out. But with the filter, I had no issues. Everything popped right in and out. Once I joined and got onto the app, everything was fine. It was perfect.”
Built-in Air Quality Monitoring
One of the key features Todd has benefited from is Woosh’s Air Quality Monitor (AQM), which integrates with your home’s smart thermostat. When there’s a change in air quality, the AQM sends an alert to the thermostat, prompting it to turn on the fan and help clear the air.
As someone who regularly meal preps in a small condo, Todd quickly saw the value in this feature:
“I noticed it most when I'm cooking because I have a small condo, like 1,150 square feet and when I'm in there cooking a bunch of stuff (I usually prep on the weekends), there’s all sorts of smoke and whatever. I’ll look up and see the air quality light turn red, and my system starts running and filtering the air automatically. That’s worked out perfectly, and it cleans things up really fast.”
Todd had previously used a Nest smart smoke detector, which often chirped while he was cooking. But after installing Woosh’s air quality system, that changed:
“I also had a Nest smart smoke detector an air quality thing and it would sometimes start chirping when I was cooking. But ever since I put the air monitoring in, it hasn’t chirped once during cooking.”
Preventative HVAC Confidence
At Woosh, one of our core goals is preventative HVAC care. Our real-time monitoring and data collection help identify potential issues early before they turn into costly repairs. That level of insight has given Todd confidence that his HVAC system is taken care of:
“I feel confident that Woosh is telling me if there's any problems through the air quality monitor, through the app, and then just through my baseline. I start with a clean filter, and after three months, my expectation is that it's going to be this level of dirty. And if there's a big variation from that, that would be indicative of a problem somewhere.”
Todd also recognizes how external factors can impact air quality and filter life. He values Woosh’s ability to detect and respond to those changes:
“My gas fireplace can be producing soot, and it's going to pick that up—between the AQI and the filter life. So I mean, it gives me confidence in the air quality and in my unit.”

“In my experience with the Woosh filter and the company particularly Winston and the rest of the customer service team it’s been outstanding. The product is high quality. The real-time feedback I get from the app and the air quality monitoring has been great.”
